How often do you use your Internet? I can hardly fathom computers at times. If I actually sit and think about all they do, I simply get confused. It's kind of like cassette tapes. Back when I was a child, I used to wonder how in the world does music come off of this magical tape. Well, it still makes little sense to me even after studying the process. The Internet is like this also. The World-Wide-Web takes us throughout cyberspace, but does it from our living rooms. Splitter in ADSL broadband connections

Many among us access the Internet on a regular basis, and that too for long periods of time. A large number of Internet service providers (ISP) are offering ADSL (Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line) broadband connections. ADSL is a technology that uses regular phone lines for Internet access. The basic ADSL speed of 256 Kbps is about five times faster than dial-up connections. In ADSL Internet connections, you can download data much faster than you can send it. Consequently, the ADSL connections are more suitable for home users, who are generally downloading information from the Internet.

Broadband means more surfing at greater speeds as compared to dial-up connections. Apart from enabling high speed data download, broadband Internet is reliable, scalable and keeps phone lines free. Subscribers to broadband Internet connections can use their phones simultaneously while surfing the Internet. This is done through the installation of a line splitter or filter. The splitter enables a subscriber to ADSL services to use their phone lines and the Internet at the same time. A filter is used between a phone connection and the telephone; it separates the incoming telephone line into data and voice components. A modem is connected directly to the phone line. Users also need to connect their modems, following the manufacturer's instructions in the right sequence. The internet connection would be managed by modem drivers and software. If your ISP has provided you with the modem, then they would also help in the installation process.

The phone is connected to the voice stream; while the modem is connected to the data stream. Thus, the splitter segregates the phone line from the ADSL modem and telephone and prevents any kind of hindrances. ISPs often include a splitter in their installation package; otherwise users have to procure one of their own. Some of us may want more than one computer to have access to broadband Internet. We could use a modem/router for this purpose. Sometimes, modems are provided by ISPs; sometimes users need to get your own modems.
